Dear Forrestal Parents,
Due to the extreme heat expected tomorrow and current facility conditions, Forrestal Elementary will be closed on Thursday, August 24, 2023. Bus service for the school is canceled for the day. All other District 187 schools will be open.
Because we understand some of our families may need access to a cool space during the day, Forrestal will remain open during regular school hours (8 a.m. - 3 p.m.) for Forrestal children and families. Air-conditioned spaces such as the cafeteria will be available.
In addition, the North Chicago Community High School Auditorium will be available from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. for Forrestal children and families. The city is also offering cooling centers at the North Chicago Public Library and the North Chicago Police Department.

Forrestal cooling plan in action: fans throughout the building, coolers of ice water now available, buddied up rooms with air, and cooling stations in cafeteria. A special shout out to Mrs. Carlsen for being a healthy frozen grape snack for her 2nd grade class! We got this!
Hello, Forrestal Families.
Here is Forrestal's cooling plan schedule for tomorrow. 1st Grade rooms are air-conditioned as of today (yay!). Remember Wednesday is early dismissal day!
I recommend sending water bottles with ice with your child, but know water bottles will be available for all (but will be room temperature). Recess will be indoors. Please be mindful to send your student in summer clothing.

We are aware of the forecast for very hot temperatures Wednesday and Thursday of this week, and we will be carefully tracking this information as it evolves over the next 48 hours. As of current predictions, Wednesday will have our area's highest temperatures and heat index. Currently, we are planning a regular school schedule.
At Forrestal, we have several air-conditioned spaces, and throughout the day, we plan to rotate classrooms through those air-conditioned rooms so that children and adults can cool off during the hot afternoon hours. In addition, we will ensure that the school has adequate water to help all students and staff remain hydrated.
Safety is our top priority. We will monitor the heat situation carefully and update you immediately if anything changes, but for now, please plan a regular schedule for all students. If you have any questions, please call the main office:

El 7 de Agosto de 10:00 am- 2:00 pm en Roberti Community House estarán ofreciendo útiles escolares, cajas de frutas y vegetales, exámenes de salud para los adultos, y exámenes físicos de deporte GRATIS para las familias.
On August 7th from 10:00 am -2:00 pm, the Roberti Community House will be providing FREE school supplies, produce, health screenings for adults, and sports physicals for families.
