Senator Duckworth Visits District 187’s Neal Math and Science Academy
On December 9, 2023, Senator Tammy Duckworth toured the Neal Math and Science Academy (NMSA) in North Chicago, Illinois. Superintendent John Price and Greg Volan (pictured), the D187 Director of Finance and Operations, joined Senator Duckworth during the visit.
The Senator's tour was an opportunity to learn more about District 187 initiatives, view the new NMSA school campus, observe NMSA’s innovative weekend programs, and meet with North Chicago Community Partners (NCCP), NMSA staff, and District 187 students. During the tour, Senator Duckworth witnessed live events, saw the NMSA science labs in action, and spoke with students and staff about their experiences.
Superintendent John Price said, "Senator Duckworth is a champion of North Chicago and continues to support the work we are doing here for our families. It was a privilege to share with her the work we are doing and of course, to showcase our new school."
While the focus of the visit was on the new school, made possible by a $40M donation from AbbVie, and the programming that we offer our students, Dr. Price and Mr. Volan also had the chance to speak with the Senator about the district’s work with Naval Station Great Lakes and the critical Impact Aid Program. Senator Duckworth greatly supports our military and veterans and prioritizes supporting Impact Aid funding for North Chicago.
